The end of the RS4

Maybe this has all the credibility of 2004 is the last year of the S2000 reports... but then again, it has historical merit.

that's a stupid tradition that they have. if they want to sit on the same level as bmw and mercedes, then they need to do whatever it takes to satisfy their customers and not their stupid tradition.

There were only ~1300 RS4s made in the US, so I don't know how many people they're really alienating....
I think it's nice that they only produce limited runs to showcase technology and create buzz... RS4 engine first--> R8 engine as next application. RS4 drivetrain and shifter --> going into the S5. RS4 V8 FSI and 40:60 rear bias Quattro --> S5 FSI and Quattro.
I'd rather see that then watching a car peter out into obsolete-ness....
Kind of brilliant to take the RS4 off the table as the next M3 comes out dontcha think?
Just in time for the RS6 to one-up the M5.

They don't pander to doing "whatever it takes" to please the customers.
There's no RS4 in automatic.
I kind of like that.
There's no S2000 in automatic, either.
The last gen M5 was only in manual tranny.
There was such outrage at the new M5's auto tranny that BMW whor'd themselves out and threw in the last gen tranny into the new vehicle... of course you can't turn off the traction control and it's widely panned as a non-drivers car in that incarnation.

I like the fact (very similar to the S2000... for better or worse), the Accounting Dept. didn't jump in and try to throw a detuned RS4 into the fray just to increase sales. Audi seems to always follow the philosophy and I hope they continue to do so.
