The end of the RS4
Yeah, that & their pricing sructure on RS cars is always upside down. Their traditional cars (A cars) are always a few thousand less than a comparable MBZ or BMW, but their RS units are always more expensive than their AMG & M counterparts. If they made the RS4 in the high 50's range vs. $66K base I would really consider getting one. As it is right now, no way. Very nice car, I have seen it & been in one (drove an S4 for a test drive before) and it is a really nice car but it should be priced right on top of an M3, not $10K more.

The last gen M5 was only in manual tranny.
There was such outrage at the new M5's auto tranny that BMW whor'd themselves out and threw in the last gen tranny into the new vehicle... of course you can't turn off the traction control and it's widely panned as a non-drivers car in that incarnation.

And as for the TCS off on the manual M5s, as of September from what i understand it'll be deactivateable(thats a word right?).

As for the "auto" tranny. I know many 6M to SMG converts, its a very impressive gearbox. Having been a longtime fan of manual boxes, i find myself torn over the faster SMG and the feel of a 6M.

The R8's is supposed to be great as well.
But the prevailing recommendation is: for track the R-tronic, for enthusiast driving 6MT.
