Default fake exhaust notes

does it bother you that ferraris, etc "tune" their exhausts to sound a certain way? there's no question that the car's are powerful. but they basically have fake exhaust notes.

*ALL* cars have tuned exhausts. Does that make them fake, too?

What is this certain way you're talking about? Does it happen to be related to the crankshaft plane arrangement?

This is what happens when you watch top gear and mimmick clarkson.

It's probably better to define an authentic exhaust tone first, then figure out what a fake exhaust note is.

If an "authentic" exhaust note would be straight pipes or whatever is the cheapest / simplest, then give me fake any day.

People complain about the G35 sound saying that it sounds fake when in fact an NA V6 with a fairly open exhaust can sound very similar to it.
I dont like overly loud, droning exhaust, but I don't want lexus quiet either, so yes, I like tuned exhausts. For the everyday man, the G35 and R32 come to mind.

Ferrari employs acousticians to tune their exhausts. I wish all manufacturers did. I'd rather listen to a Ferrari exhaust all day rather than Beethoven.

Pretty much every manufacturer does this. Some just focus on the sound more than others, not to mention some have more to work with. Others focus on intake sound as the dominant aural signature of the car.

An NSX at full throttle is all about the intake, not the exhaust, and it sounds fabulous. V8 Ferraris, on the other hand, have a good intake sound but it's their exhaust sound that defines the car.

I don't see how tuning an exhaust note makes it "fake".
