The S2000 has a tuned exhaust, they went through countless iterations to find the sound they wanted.

I'd rather listen to a good sounding tuned exhaust over a crappy untuned one anyday. YMMY....

Exhaust notes are a form of art.

Some hate it, some love it.

Your allowed to have your own opinion, as such does the buyer; that is a true buyer as oppose to a fake buyer.

Perhaps your thought could be re-focused on... those who buy cars for only the sound it makes, dismissing the true fact which is the essence of the car; that is ... it's a rendition of driving excellence brought to fruition by the nerves of a designer.

Basically, buying a car for the sound and not the car itself. Thats the real story perhaps...no?

*ALL* cars have tuned exhausts. Does that make them fake, too?

Much of the exhaust note comes from the number of cylinders, crank configuration, and engine tune with the exhaust system only quieting and tweaking the sound from the basic powerplant.

You can't "add" anything to the sound of the engine. You can only filter it or adjust its tonal properties by altering pipe diameter, pipe geometry, and the amount of sound absorbed in the exhaust system.

does it bother you that ferraris, etc "tune" their exhausts to sound a certain way? there's no question that the car's are powerful. but they basically have fake exhaust notes.
The only untuned exhaust sound possible is a headerless, pipeless engine, which would be prohibitively loud and polluting. Your premise is based on a false assumption, that being that only some cars have tuned exhausts, and all others have exactly the same exhaust system.

I have no problem with anyone tuning their exhaust sound. As long as it sounds good and isn't obnoxiously loud (volume dependent upon application), who cares? Also, Ferrari exhaust noises are partly a result of other aspects of their engine design, not simply poking and prodding exhaust manifolds.

Right. It was tuned to sound that way. ALL cars have a tuned exhaust.

The only "fake" exhaust notes that bothers me is the fart can exhaust of riced-out imports and the insanely loud mud-mobile Silverado that parks in front of my house.

Back on topic, Ferrari exhaust modification by Ferrari engineers doesn't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I applaud their efforts. The result is pure magic.
