Ferrari 512BB?
So, my wife and I are kinda house-hunting. Last night we checked out a place with 7 garage bays! Needless to say, I loved the house. The wife wasn't so sure, though. The owners had moved out of the house, and the place was empty. But, while checking out the 7 garage bays, I found a Ferrari 512BB sitting in one of them. It looked like a very cool car, but it also seems to me to be a very forgotten car. It's much prettier to me than the subsequent Testarosa, and it has a lot more punch than a 308 (5L flat 12 with 360hp, I think). I asked our realtor if we could write the Ferrari into the offer. My Old Lady didn't seem amused. Anyone have any experience with the 512BBs?
I think it's forgotten since most of 70's and the early 80's Ferrari offerings weren't exactly pretty, IMO. Their performance was decent for the era, but now are considered somewhat slow by today's standards, whereas the 60's offerings were very handsome and timeless. Ferrari really turned around in the mid 80's and needed to change to stay afloat.
That being said, if they include it in the sale for a good price, take it, but personally it's not a Ferrari I would "dream" of owning.

I remember those being worth a lot of money.

The Boxer was not US legal. The only US examples were gray market and federalized or just plain illegal.
They were a fantastic car for the day.
I've driven one...steering is a bit ponderous, lots of understeer at low speeds, but the car shines above 100mph. It was designed for high speed. The sound of the Ferrari boxer motor is intoxicating...very different from the v12.

I say go for it. Maybe the 512BB isn't the most sought after F-car, but I think it's pretty distinctive. How many Ferraris had a flat-12 anyhow? I don't know what kind of shape this thing is in, but I would think at the very least you might be able to get a decent penny out of it, if you don't have the coin to fix it. But if you have money for a 7-garage house, I'm guessing you'll be able to "scrape" something together.
