These fires are no joke...it's escaladed into a very serious and tragic matter. People have lost lives and homes in a matter of weeks.
VTEC_Junkie, the fires are in the Simi Valley and Rancho Cucamonga area. Those are the main areas, but I believe the fire's spread pretty far to other areas as well.

First off, you wait AT your home to when the fires are closest to your properties, hoping it will turn away, and you do your best to "fire proof" your home i.e. watering down your grass and roof and dry brush. If you were out trying to move cars from the area and those around you were evacuated, you wouldn't be allowed back into your house. Then what have you gathered? sorry if this is inane to anybody, but you DID bother to read didn't you? He who is without clicking on one of wantone's "inital d" posts cast the first stone...

Most people have never had to deal with something like this. I know I haven't. I know my first and only priority would be saving my hide and helping my friends and family save theirs. Cars, no matter the cost or rarity, are meaningless if you're char-broiled.

afaik, about 500,000~600,000 acres burned, 600~700 homes totally destroyed, and about a dozen dead. schools have been closed since yesterday because of the rediculously unhealthy air due to all the smoke.

This is messed up. Were these fires started on purpose? Obvioulsy life is more important than any material thing no matter the cost, but unless you have fire insurance will some people not be reinbursed? If I was there I'd drive the hell out the Ferrari then drive it back to get burned, get all the sentimental valued things and forget the rest.

This is a crazy topic but very relevant to what happned to my boss's friend yesterday. He was asked to vacate his house North of Los Angeles, so he had a couple friends (including my boss) go help him move the most valuable stuff. Well, he had an old collector's Porsche that he took on the first trip out and when we went back to get the rest the fire department would not let him go. At least he got the Porsche out.
