I was doing some thinking and playing around on the net and came across a nice 1995 Corvette for sale. I got to thinking wow these are so cheap, but why? I looked up the performance specs and I was somewhat surprised at how well they actually perform and how few I see on the road. Someone would rather spend $7,000 on other cars before even looking at this one...

Sure, it looks a little too 90210 for a lot of people. But how do we ignore that and look at what matters? This car is reliable, it has a solid powerplant, handles well and is CHEAP as hell...

What other cars do you think are now under the radar? Post pictures, specs, and whatever else you think is important.

would make one hell of a track car

i know this is anecdotal, but my uncle had one and the electronics had gremlins like you wouldn't believe.

 

The electronic part is true, that gimmicky dash was known for issues. The lt1 drivetrain the one ur looking at is rock solid but the car itself shows its 80s roots. Constant leaks, bad comfort, squeaks and rattles galore. The c5 is a much better car in all respects. And a lot of the handling can be attributed to the tire to car ratio lol.
But they do make for some good bargain burners though.

Anyway, that'd be one hell of a nice sleeper to build. I mean, $7,000? You could buy that and spend the rest of the money on incredible mods to make it much faster than it already is.

 

$7,000 is a very sweet price. The first thing that has to go is that steering wheel. OMG.

 

I like mine, in a different power train. It's really hard to beat the bang for buck as far as this engine goes (LS1 is a bit more expensive). Full exhaust and cold air for $1000 will net you 300rwhp. Another $1000 for a cam will net you 350rwhp....tough to beat.

 

That's quite low, my bet is it's either really high mileage, salvaged, or has some other problem. For the money they usually go for, I'd rather have a 300zx TT.

You'd rather have a 300zxTT and I bet that means you'd rather pay ungodly amounts to keep it going too.

Yes, because 15 year old Chevys are veritable fountains of ne'er anything goes wrong...

Obviously, reliability and maintenance costs are not a high priority or you'd be looking at Civics and Accords. And in general, finding a 15 year old Corvette for $7,000 is extremely unlikely as well. Maybe it's a really great deal, or maybe there's a reason it's cheap as hell compared with other 15 year old Corvettes.
