Default forks installation on f4i?

unfortunately i dropped my bike on a turn and need to replace the front forks. I purchased the forks along with clamps, so i just need to install them. Can anyone provide good instructions or a link to one for fork installation (specifically f4i if possible)? thanks!

Did you buy new triple clamps also? You must have hit something to damage the triple clamps.

For this kind of job I strongly suggest you take it to a professional.

See if there is a Computrack certified service shop in your area, they helped me straighten out my Race R6 after a little off track excursion.

you have to support the front end off the ground by suspending it from the cieling or something. You could use some tie downs or something. If you still had the triple clamps, you could use a front fork stand, and take the forks off and on. Bascially, once you have it in the air (might be a good idea to loosen some bolts and stuff, if you can while its still planted on the ground), remove front wheel, front fender, calipers, then you should be able to loosen the triple clamps, and the forks will slide out. I am sure there might be something I am missing.

Hey brah,
When I dropped my F4I (CBR6) I tried to do what you're doing. (Jacked it up, and was a mech for 3 years) I agree with the reccomendation of taking it somewhere. Suspensios is the easiest way to better bike (Faster, better turns etc..), but is also the easiest way to a worse bike if you mess it up. Best of luck though, I like your choice of bikes

If you can't set your bike up safely so that you can work on it, take to a professional. Even if you do it yourself, it wouldn't hurt to have a professional look at it. Okay, it might hurt the wallet a little.

1) Buy a Haynes or OEM manual for your bike

2) Buy a torque wrench. If not from Sears, go to www.HarborFreight.com to cheap tools.

3) Install the clamps first, and torque very carefully to the recommended specifications. Grease the bearings before-hand, hopefully with some RedLine Red Moly lube.

4) Slide the forks into place, but do not tighten any bolts. Measure where the forks top out. You may want to start with 10-15mm of fork showing at the top--I'm not sure what OE recommends, but most people drop their forks in the clamps for quicker turning.

5) Start from the bottom--install the front wheel axle and wheel, and tighten the pinch bolts. Move up to the lower triple clamp pinch bolts and tighten. Last, tighten the top triple clamp pinch bolts.

6) Drop the bike and compress the front end a few times. Loosen and tighten all bolts in order, from bottom to top.

If the OEM manual says to do it differently than what's stated above, listen to THEM.
