Default Trackday Helmets

Considering to start trackdaying my S at some point following the amazing Oulton Park track day on the 2nd March. I was trawling auction sites looking for helmets, but I wasnt sure if I would be buying the right one. Preferably an Arai one, but I wasnt sure whether I would be allowed on track with the many Arai motorbike specific helmets about. Does it matter, or would it have to be one of the GP5/6, I also noticed the SK range of Arai which are specifically for Karting, would I be allowed on track if I were to buy one of these? thanks

A bike helmet is fine for a trackday. However, you need to be sure that it fits properly so i'd go to a shop and try them on before buying one.

This gets asked quite a lot, have a search for "helmet"

A good fit is essential, so go to a local motorcycle shop and try some on.

Mine is a £50 Takachi TK30

Most tracks will insist that if you drive a soft top you need a closed face helmet.

I use my old mans bike helmet.

Alex i have an OMP one similar to this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OMP-Jet-7-...item45fd03a0ae

I also have a motorbike closed face one which passengers use and i have to say that i do prefer the open face helmet as visability is so much better and its easier to put on if you wear glasses or sunglasses.

Thanks again everyone, @Robin, I can understand that you would get better visibility with an open faced helmet, but when I wear them, I look like a fat kid stuck in a lift

No track day i've been on insists on a full face for the S2000. That rule is for Caterhams. I much prefer open face, but full face is handy if you plan to hire a Caterham at some point.

I will be selling my Sparco Pro-Jet soon, in Size S (I have a small head )

You only have the one head .... so don't buy a cheap helmet.

I got 5 helmets (I ride bikes) but I find the best one for carting or track days is my open face Arai SZ-F.

I sort of agree for motorcyclists, but when you are in a nice car with a nice airbag, you'll be ok with anything so long as it's comfy and you can see
