Default Fun with a Lincoln

Don't worry -- no cars were hurt in this episode -- only some tires.

I was bored this week and didn't get the usual caddy as a rental. Instead I ended up with a Lincoln Town Car. I am not a fan of the Lincoln Town Car it really is a dinosaur in so many ways.

The upside is that the Lincoln is rear wheel drive. Find a big empty parking lot and ...

Lincoln Town car. That car is so funny in many ways. However, that thing is EXPENSIVE (I think).

MSRP starts around 40. They probably sell for quite a bit less. The funny part is Lincoln reworked the car back in 2003 to make it more of an "enthusiasts" car. Ha. Something like 60 percent of buyers are repeat town car buyers -- and you have to figure they are dying off.

They key to any good standing burnout (or creeping) is the brakes. A bit of modulation and you can get the drivers side to join in with the passengers side (which generally starts first).

That laid a pretty nice patch, Steve. Who knew the Lincoln had it in it? I like the technique.

as a side note, at a stunt driving school I went to the instructor used to rent cars to use for the sessions...until he got banned from every rental car chain in the area.

Rental cars are about the best bang for your buck entertainment on trip. In Vegas we rented a Chrysler 300 and kept it in "L" the whole trip. That car could have been fun if the damn traction control wouldn't constantly kick in. Even when we turned it off it would still put a damper on our fun. We developed a new method of auto-abuse that we titled a "stoppy" A "Stoppy" is when you floor the car and just as you hit a speed bump you slam the brakes. If timed correctly, it produces the most awful bark, crunch, snap.
