If you are keeping the BMW forever, if it is out of warranty then you will have to find independent shops to service it or pay out your butt to pay the repairs/maintenance at the dealership. BMW forums like bimmerfest have more info about this.

Not much at all. Oil changes and various other fluids, windshield wipers, 4 air filters, a cabin filter or two, that's it. You can go 6,000 miles on today's synthetics, but depending on when you prefer to change your oil, I'd say you'd change it 12 times in 4 years driving 12,000 miles a year. 12 oil changes at $50 each, is $720. When we get our MDX's oil changed, Acura tops off the rest of the fluids for "no charge". I'm sure Infiniti dealers do the same. Windshield wipers? Call it $15 a pair, once a year (do it yourself). All in all, I would say maintenance would probably cost you somewhere around $1,200 for 4 years of ownership. Warranty items don't count. Brakes? Automatic maybe, but anyone who goes through a set of brakes in less than 50,000 miles driving a manual tranny is doing something wrong. If you're going to let the dealer do all their "recommended" services that cost $250-300+ to walk around it a few times, kick the tires and look for more things to charge you to replace for no reason, then it's obviously going to be much more.

BMW's maintenenance program is not what it used to be. It is easy to see that the bean counters have definately taken over. Sure the oil changes are free... every 12,000 miles. I needed to get an alignment after 13,000 miles and got charged over $200. Yep, just for an alignment. As someone else already said, they still make their money.

But I love my car. If I wanted the best warranty/maintenance program possible, I would have purchased a Mercedes.

As for the comparos, you pay less for the G37 because, for the most part, you get less of a car.

 

When I bought my FX, the dealer gave me 4 years oil change service free. That was every 3700 miles. Included in that oil service are all the lubrication parts, all fluid filled up, car wash in and out.

My M Coupe goes to the dealer once a year or 12k (except the first 1200 miles). It is nice don

 

IMHO, the G37 is ugly. They ruined the only sexy feature of the G35 - the tail lights!
