believe anyone who buys a new S2000 can buy a C5 Z06. .

Most people don't need super-fast cars. Not that I'm against fast cars, but I'm not a race car driver and the S2000 gets me where I'm going plenty fast.

I've driven many faster cars than the S2000, but few funner cars.
Yeah, like me! I sold my C5 ZO6 and got the s2k. Never regretted it.

I read tonight that the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

Actually, the new Avalon has clocked low 14 second 1/4 mile times at 99mph. That means it will outrun anything less than a very-well driven S2000.

Face it, our S2000's are not about straight-line speed. It's the whole package that makes it so great.

even though manufacturers are putting out high hp figures and lower performance times. the S2000 is still capable, (with Tiff Nedell behind the wheel) of hitting 60 in the 5 and a half second range and the quarter mile in 13.86 (from an older Motor Trend of mine), so who cares? Besides im sure im gonna get tons of people telling me that the car isnt about going fast in a straight line, which is true. But i live in America where all the roads are straight anyway, so a little in line acceleration never hurts, and I think it would be a shame to say that our cars are becoming outclassed in terms of performance.
Perhaps, but I'm still the one driving those roads...and the feeling while driving is much more important to me than talking about it...

...and certainly more important than showing up the rap-playing, backwards hat-wearing, pizza delivery boy in the SRT4 next to me

Is that so?

I almost sold my S2000 for a new C5 Z06, but the price dif was high (for me). Plus didn't want to give up the vert and the (best) shifter etc... I know the S2000 isn't the best car around, but it's not bad and it's by no means slow.

However (IMO) the C5 Z05 is bar none the best car you can buy for ~$30K

Outside a track, you're probably not going to drive much faster in a faster car.

I mean with speed laws and safety considerations, you can't drive an Enzo much faster than a S2000.

Straight line acceleration, yes, but overall, speed is NOT limited by a "slow" car like the S2000 IMO.

you're saying is an Avalon can out drag a poorly driven S2000. I agree...

But that don't make it a faster car IMO

Avalon vs S2000... the Avalon guy just needs to floor it. the S2000 guy needs to launch perfectly (other wise bog or spin too much and get killed) and shift perfectly to have a chance.

I would have to guess 75% of the time in a street race the avalon would win.... plus the S2000 guys is sitting there reving to 5500rpm at the light looking like an idiot while grampa is listen to his jazz smoking a pipe.

I have a 2003 Cobra convertible which to me is more fun that an S2000... straight line speed street cars are more fun... i drive on the interstate and city most of the time.... i can still take exit ramps at decent speeds...probably 2-3mph slower than in an S2000......but I can hit 120mph in about 13 seconds.

I got a feeling that we might see a repeat of history. Lots of powerful cars came out in the late eighties and early nineties. A bunch of morons got their hands on them and crashed them everywhere. They put there rx7's into barriers, 300z TT into trees, and Supras into the bottom of canyons. Lots of people got hurt or killed. Then the insuranced companies came along and put the fun cars out of existence.

Get lots of powerfull cars in the hands of idiots and teens and it wont be long before performance will only be had for costs too high for the average person.
