I don't know that I would agree with that statement. Toyota and Honda built themselves into profitable companies in large part by ignoring the relative few who buy these cars and the tiny profits they might bring in.

In my opinion, GM placed lots of emphasis on a little flash when the money could have been better spent elsewhere. We have also had half a dozen threads about how CTS-V's were going for big discounts and pondered whther or not Caddy should cut it loose.

Its nice fodder for discussion, but for all the talk that goes on here, many return and talk about there nice Vette, or Cayman, or 3 Series, but for all the people that proclaimed "HOME FREAKING RUN!!!!" for the CTSV and the G8 or G8 GXP, nobody has bought one and come back to talk about it. Or the Challenger SRT8 for that matter. And that is the reason they will get the axe. I still have only seen 2 G8's on the road.

GM is not looking to weaken itself by cutting low volume performance cars, its doing the opposite. When they return to prosperity, they can add the discretionary stuff back in.

 

Sad as it may be, since I am in that ~1% of people that want the performance cars.

I know I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the CTS-V is still around when my lease is up in November.

 

Oh, they will be there.
It's just that there won't be anymore(for a while) new projects developing.

Well that for me is a zero on the surprise meter.

In order to survive GM has to cut out the programs that have the lowest return on their investment. It's not like the Vette is going to die, it's just future developments of the class leading hottest models that will be gone.

 

For the record- I don't believe it is at all fair to lump Fords into the same stinking crap pile as Chrysler and GM. Right now there are only two companies with their handout for our money, and Ford is not one of them.

 

But Ford still suffers from the lack of exciting or competitive cars in their current lineup like GM and Crysler save for the F-150
