Going To Look At A Bike
Hey guys and gals I'm going to look at a 98 GSX-R 750. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for? Any prominent problems with that model year? It's just gonna be a project and a ride to work occasionally (sp) I'll also be taking it to the local bike night near my house so no serious rides or long trips. It's not in great condition as far as the fairings are concerned, seems the owner dropped it a few times, but the frame is polished and it has yoshi exhaust. The guy is asking $2900. What do ya think?

Even though your plans are for only occassional short trips, the very nature of a motorcycle demands that it be in good shape in all of its components.
An 8 yr old bike that appears not to be well kept cosmetically is likely to be unkept mechanically as well.
By 8 years of age, in order to be minimally safe, it wil need (at the very least): New brake fluid.
New fuel hoses. Tires?
I'd have a real good look at these "wear and tear" items and they might even help as leverage in the negotiation if you decide it's a keeper.
Ask for a maintenace record.
Make sure the engine is COLD when you check the engine.
Good luck.

about that time the bikes were converting over to fuel injection. dont consider a bile that does not have fuel injection.
look at the tires, its a good if you see generious chicken stripes and the center worn flat.
its a good idea to see the bike started when its cold but a polished sportbike frame only indicates the previous owner did not have a life.
sportbike plastic generally dosnt look good and this is expected. visit gixxer.com for replacement plastic. look at the frame sliders and verify they are striaight.
