Default Good beaters?

I am looking for some advice on what would be a good beater car, I don't have a ton of time to search for that great deal because I am parting ways with my Ford Explorer tomorrow at noon, I am looking at $1,500 or less for a car that can last me a solid year. I was thinking mid 90's Taurus, even HIGH HIGH mileage accords, civics, go for a good $2,000-$2,500 so I don't think I can do that but what do you think from experience or common knowledge would be something to look for that won't be very hard to find, I am going to be driving it for a while to save up for my down payment on the SRT-4.

Buy a beater SXT neon... That way youll get a preview of your SRT..

Anyways..

Can I ask WHY you are asking an S2000 forum about beaters in order to save up for a Neon SRT 4????????

Your not going to be welcomed with open arms.. Im not sure if you are an ex S2k owner under a different name but geezz.. I cant imagine the first website you thought of to sign up for regarding your pre SRT4 car would be the S2k site...

Yeah, why save up for an SRT-4 which is FWD, then come talk in Car talk at the S2000 website which is a RWD based car.

Two different cars. One track mind.

I call it first, TROLLLLLLLLLLLLL

a clean 2wd pickup should get you from A to B on the cheap. And always useful for Homedepot runs.

honda high milage is >200K

honda's are sort of a premium cost item so maybe a Nissan Sentra more good? not a big issue if you use autotrader.com or cars.com set at your cost limit. out will jump a grep of daily drivers.

anyways:
i am sort of worn out seeing dead locked threads on GM, Harleys and other not Honda or s2000 or sport car issues. thanks

I sold my wifes Escort (3-door hatch 5-speed MT) to a neighbor 40 months ago. It was a 93 (I think) and was not a great car to drive. A bit shuddery when you go over RR tracks etc..

I sold it with 90K miles for $1K and it had nearly new tires worth ~$300. So my neighbor has driven it for 40 months with almost no issues except getting a new starter and battery. And it gets 30+ mpg.

You can probably find an Escort for less than a Civic. And thye are very cheap to fix (I think).

The M3 makes for a decent beater.

OK really, I would say the new Civic or Fit are pretty decent beaters for super cheap.

The best beater is the cheapest car you find in the best condition.

If you limit your view, you will miss out on a lot of great cars.

My dad just bought a 97' Ford Escort Wagon in immaculate condition with 65k miles for 2300. Great beater for his 90 minute commute to work.
