Old, high-mileage Honda civics and accords are overpriced IMHO. You can get much better deals and value in your price range out of their contemporary competitors - Nissan Sentra, Nissan Altima, Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer/Mazda protege, Mazda 626, Dodge Neon, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla/Geo Prism, etc

I would say a late 90's cavalier/sunfire... they are dirt cheap, relatively new, and can last forever. I have one with 225k and still ticking. Everything original including the clutch..

I bought my '96 Altima for $1500... 5-speed w/177k miles. I've got over 190k on the clock now and it runs fine, no trouble. I'm long overdue to change the oil though, but the car isn't complaining. It's got a little rust and a banged up rear door (decided to just keep the insurance money, lol), but it gets me where I need to go.

Anyways, a good little beater...
