Default Helmets

Does anyone know if there are any good multi use helmets? I am looking to get a bike this summer, and I would ideally like to get a helmet which I could use when tracking my S and when riding.

I know each are engineered for different purposes but are there good crossover helmets?

I would think that a SNELL approved motorcycle helmet should be more than enough for track purposes in your S.

Check the track day organisers regulations. If they require a Snell SA it has fireproofing that a Snell M (motorcycle) helmet does not.

In the case of SCCA, they except Snell M Rated helmets in Solo2 or Autocrossing, but in roadracing they do not.

no motorcycle (M) helmet is any better than another motorcycle (M) helmet in a car.....it's either SA or not...plus i always think drivers look pretty stupid in their car with a goofy ass helmet with a joker on it or something..so maybe go for a normal solid color..just mho

maybe you could judge by the price tag and name recognition (Arai, shoei, AGV, etc.) but motorcycle helmets are made for motorcycles and car helmets are made for cars...as you said you already know

true. M/C helmets are made basicly for one impact (macadam), car helmets are made for multiple impacts (rollbars) and like VFROOM mentioned some are fire-retardent too.

I'm sure for most sanctioning bodies and most trackday organizers a quality M/C helmet will suffice. Please don't buy a car helmet and wear it on your M/C though.

One of my "multi-use" helmets. Dot/snell approved and great for scaring off Jedis/Squids

edit: but yeah any MC helmet should suffice any autox/trackdays.

The benefit to higher quality mc helmets, probably the same for car racing helmets, is that the fit, durability, and cooling properties are usually better. The difference between a fogged visor with no air circulation and one without can make a HUGE difference to the driver.

not to mention how much lighter Motorcycle helmets tend to be.
