for some reason honda's newer tranny has been a huge problem from 2nd gear grind and pop out to tranny completely going out. i have a friend with v6 accord tranny went bye bye right before 100k luckily she was under CPO.
TL has been replaced. Odyssey not yet. I should rephrase. I assume lost because the slippage in the 85k Odyssey is very evident, much like our 99 TL with 60k at the time.

Another vote for the LS. The E just doesn't look as good as the LS. IMO, the Genesis needs more polishing.

I agree with devs2k on the "complications" on the newer Japanese lux cars vs. the Germans.

When I think of all new cars, Japanese, German, Korean, American I get really scared because I cannot imagine owning any of them with all these gizmos after they are 7-8 years old.

I don't expect my Dell laptop to last more than 3 years, how I can expect all these control units in a car to last a lifetime?

Thanks guys. I was thinking CPO too. Its just that I wanted him to get a new car.

I am trying to get the car with the least electrical toys on it. However I figure Nav and back up camera is a must at his age. His eyesight is a bit poor but His brain is sharp as a scapel!

especially since you mentioned he wants to keep it for a long time, the Lex wont do you wrong.

The Acura TL tranny problems are 2005 and older. Newer ones use the RL tranny. I do like the Acura nav, but I don't have the camera.

Back-up camera with the parking sensors is the single most useful option I have ever seen, especially for a car this size. I amaze myself with the spots I can get into with that car.

If a new car, how about the GS350? It's still larger than his ES, and you could also get AWD.

Parking sensors are so key.

LS all the way, if he's talking about keeping the car a truly long time (more than ten years). Reliable, classy, comfortable, good brand image, and it's already taken a big hit in depreciation.

The Hyundai, if purchased new, would have a 10 yr/100K mile warranty. How long is he keeping this car and how much will he drive it each year? If he's going to stay pretty close to 10K miles a year, I'd argue the Genesis is still the better buy overall. If it doesn't hold up, he has warranty to fall back on for most major issues.

LS460 all the way. Awesome luxury, power, and reliability. Looks slick as hell too.
