HELP!! needed (kinda long)
i need help with a couple things...
ok, so heres the deal, MY95' Honda Passport, still in reletively good shape, one problem is that the motor seems very stressed and makes it seem like there is almost a "lag" in acceleration. the car has about 120 thousand miles on it, but is still in good shape, the needed fluids are changed on time most of the time, and doesnt get abused in anyway after all of it years so far, such as high speeds and very long travel. does anybody know why the motor seems so "heavy" , i know its not a lot of info going by, but its basically all that i can explain.
secondly, for about a year now, the rear driver passenger door has been "jammed" closed. my dad and i were trying to figure out what the problem is, and we quickly found that the connection between the handle and locking/latching mechanism are no longer connected. is there a way that i can get the door open, without doing anything to the door panels, or without having to take it into a shop? if there is a way to open the door, then i can take the door apart and try to fix the connection...
And finally, of the doors that still open, the hinges make a creaking noise, and it is kinda hard to open the door at times...i am thinking the hinges just need some oil to become relubed...am i right?
PLEASE help me out here with suggestions or knowledge. i am trying to learn about some things and get accustomed(sp) to fixing things that are broken, such as the door...
thank you in advance
With such little info to go on, your "heavy" feeling may be one or more of the following:
-dirty air cleaner?
-old spark plugs, wrong gap?
-deteriorated spark plug wires?
-dirty fuel filter?
-dirty air filter?
-clogged injectors?
-timing off?
-ignition parts getting too old?
-throttle cable too much slack or just sticking in its sheath?
-old tranny, diff fluids?
-brakes dragging?
The jammed door might be opened by playing around with a "slim Jim". This is a flat piece of hard metal with notches cut in it that car thieves use to unlock your door. It can, in some instances be used to grab the door release mechanism. You need to get a schematic on what the mechanism looks like so you know which part to "fish around".
Door hinges, strikers, hood latches should be treated with "White Lithium Grease" annually. Had you done this all along, this would have gotten to this stage. I suggest you use a liberal dose of WD-40 on the hinges and strikers to clean them first. Allow to dry, then spray the W.L. grease on them and work the door open and close. It will get loose with a couple of applications.

thanks xviper,
i know for a fact that the air filter is dirty, and also the spark plugs are old as well. Maybe those things and perhaps other factors are causing the motor to feel heavy. I will attempt to fix the jammed door with something, not exactly what you described, but ill find something, and i will WD-40 the hinges.

In addition to xviper's thorough list, I'll add clogged catalytic converter. Restriction in the exhaust can lead to power loss and a "heavy feel". Please let us know how this gets resolved.

Forgot about that one.

allright guys, i started the construction today
so far so good, first i WD-40'd the door hinges, mostly smooth now, might need a little more though, and with the door, i started it, took apart the rear passenger door to figure out the door design, then went to work on the jammed rear driver door, that was a hassle, there is no way to open from the ways i had hoped of doing, by possibly "fishing" it open with a hook, so tommorow, i am going to rachet the door open from the side that doesn't have the handle on it, are you following so far?
and then hopefully be able to remove the door from the body, and fix it, when it is detached. Tommorow i am also starting on checking on all of the engine components(thanks xviper and CoralDoc for the list of things to check) and hopefully be able to make more progress than today, but ill keep everyone updated
, i just hope i dont get stuck on something, as my mom needs to use this car on monday

Fishing it open with a hook probably won't work. As Xviper suggested, a "Slim Jim" is probably your best bet. Years ago I had a car that had the latch disconnected like yours on both doors after an ice storm. A security guard pulled out a slim jim (basically a wide piece of high strength steel strapping with a notch cut into it) and fished around until he got one of the doors open. It's pretty scary to see how easy it is to break into a car.
If there's any way that you can pull back some of the inner panel to see what you;re fishing, then getting it open shouldn't be very hard. Xviper and CoralDoc's suggestions have the rest of your concerns covered well. Good Luck!
