and thus Car Talk "how to side-track a thread in four posts" has come into light:
1. Start thread about quick and/or fast cars, regardless of merit, quality, or other factors
2. Post something completely irrelevant in said thread about speed, such as Zodiac Symbol, Socrates, or how "numbers aren't everything"
3. Wait for another completely irrelevant post about steering feel, windshield washer filler placement, or interior quality
4. Thread goes to hell.
I was going to respond, but I don't think that anything I could have said would have been more accurate, funny, or just plain perfect.

You forgot to add "or unable to sense sarcasm."

what I like is that super car is no longer enough, ultra bleeding edge of death and insanity cars are now increasingly common - I saw a radical driving down las vegas blvd last week and this is considered street legal.

and for the 2 wheeler crowd I've seen these spin the rollers @ 191hp to the rear wheel stock from the dealer. Yeah 400 pounds 200 hp that's 2:1 power to weight ratio from a stock BMW

Yea cars are getting faster and faster now, which makes me wonder...does a family car like an accord or maxima really need ~300hp?

Cars are a helluva lot faster these days. Still, only six in the Feb. R&T test summary page faster in the 1/4 than the white car in my sig. Cheapest one over 1/4 million!

It's because the american population is getting fatter and fatter. Automakers need to keep increasing the power or the power to weight ratio will go down.

v6 mustangs run 13's now, put that in perspective
numbers aren't everything
new mustangs also have decent interiors, get good gas mileage, and oh yea, would probably outrun you at the track if you had even one slip up

The real problem here is that people think cars have to be faster than everything else before they can be fun.
