Honda plans big marketing blitz for new Civic

what I don't get is the 02-05 Si had 160HP just like the 99-00 but is slower. It also has more torque and similar weight. Also, the VTEC-E valvetrain on the current Si means power is hard to come by with upgrades.

how many thought the current Si (hatchback) was an improvement over the previous gen Si?
Honda pulled an Aztec but somehow no one kills Honda for it.
the new Si looks great. Makes the tC look like a wet noodle IMO.

IMO, Honda doesn't need to spend all that money to over-advertise it.
It'll do just fine.
Moreover, while yeah, the tC looks good now - wait until you see an Si with rims and coilovers and. . . well, we all know how it ends (it doesn't)

BTW, the Scion TC is WAY underpowered. I test drove one and simply told the dealer "no" afterwards. The thing revs to only 6500 I believe. It was very boring. If I wanted such a low redline, I'd go buy a mustang.

Don't discount the 8500 rpm redline. That's a big selling point. I've driven other very fast cars with "normal" redlines and to me it seems like the fun ends too quick. I'm not gonna say the Si will be as fast as other pocket rockets, but it may be more fun-to-drive due to close ratio 6-speed and high redline.
The Civic already is the top selling small car around 300K/year. This entire new line-up should add to that substantially. I had no desire for a civic before this, but the Si has got my attention.

I have the new SI kicking the tC's tail in every aesthetic department. The tC may have been something when it came out (but not by much), but it's...oh what's the new term?..."played out"?
The SI will obviously cost more, and probably will not sell as many examples, but if I had the choice, I'd go SI. The tC is well built for sure, but it's much more plain.
