I went for a test drive in a new Corvette today and I was very impressed. The standard 6 speed was nice as I expected. The new 6 speed auto was much better than I expected. Of course I couldn't track it so I don't know how it would handle on the move. But it did really get up and go for a production vehicle.
Is there anything out there that can compete for the dollar? What do you think about the build quality? There are superchargers and turbo kits already on the market for this car and make it much stronger than the Z06.
I wanted to try out a Lotus Elise, but being 6'5" tall, I could not get in it. I also drove the 911 Carrera. Its a nice car and real quick. The stearing is very crisp. But for the cost, I can purchase 3 Honda S2000's. Does not seem like a good deal to me. Much more expensive than I can afford anyway.
Will a turbo kit make the S2000 as quick as the standard Corvette?

I think as for best performance car for the money the C6 takes the cake. I'd rather have a 911 but the extra $$ would be hard to justify.

 

A turbo S2k couldn't even beat a C5. C6 will beat it too and by more.

With mark downs on 2005 models you can currently get a coupe for less than $38K. It is very hard to beat that value.

 

I wanted to hear from a group that drives the S2000 as I knew I would get a atrue response. When I own a car I am proud of, I always give it the benifit of the doubt.
With this said, you guys still like the new Corvette, and I agree with you. Scott B has the best comparison I have ever read. I had a C4 and I loved it at the time. The C6 is like a full standard deviation above the C4. I never liked the fat rear of the C5.
I would like to know where I can get a 2005 C6 coupe with 6 speed for a real nice price. I live in Dallas and the 05's are all gone except for the auto's and I don't want a vett with a truck transmission!!!

OK guys, I am ready to buy. I want a C6 coupe with the 6 speed manual, but 6 speed auto is also fine as I didn't notice a real performance difference. I do like the way the 6 speed auto works. Before, when you went into a curve and let off the gas, it would shift from second to fifth and you could not accelerate out of the curve because it would have to shift its self back down. With the new auto, you can shift from the stearing wheel like a farrari! Put it into second and it will stay there until you tell it otherwise. I went about 70 mph in the demo car in second!
So if you know of a dealer near you with a black or silver, please let me know. Mind you I want the end of year deal. In Dallas it has been $7200 off the MSRP.
This is going to be great. I have always regretted letting my wife force me to sell my C4. She didn't like the way women would look at who was driving it!!! I am old now and don't have to worry about that...40 years. I hope they look anyway.
