In NC you can apply for a permit annually and ride a bike, which lots of people do instead of just taking the test - why you'd want o go to the DMV every year and pay out versus just taking the test and getting a license is beyond me.
I think AAA just reported motorcycle accidents are up 18% in NC this year - mostly inexperienced riders moving from cars to cheaper bikes.

I'd like to see more communication/cooperation between the DMVs and the DOLs.
You should not be allowed to register a motorcycle (unless ORV) if you do not have your permit or license.
I mean, how hard can that be to check, they look at you ID when you register your vehicle anyway, don't even need a database to look it up.
Of course, I rode for 10, 12, 15 hell I don't even know how long anymore without a license, wasn't until they started impounding unlicensed riders bikes that I took the MSF class and got my license. I guess that enforcement program was effective.

I rode for two weeks. Went to the DMV took the test and got my license. Here in Oklahoma most people don't have a license or insurance, at least my friends don't. I don't want my bike impounded.

I've had my license since 1985. Rode with a permit, but no "licensed buddy" as required because I didn't have a friend with a license. Did that until I completed the MSF class, then I took the test.
I don't see the point of riding without a license. Costs next to nothing and is easy to get. Now in NY, you get your license upon completion of the MSF course.
