how much does 400lbs make a difference?

The +~10% weight will be roughly the same as -~10% power in terms of straight line performance at road speeds: drop from 330hp to 300hp.

Handling could suffer too, but you need to just test drive it for that.

And agreed with the others--this is not a car where weight would be my primary concern. Cabin noise and ride comfort would be up there at a similar level to weight.

And how about the 335i convertible hardtops, or are they priced quite a bit higher?

my RSTi is around 400 lbs lighter than a GD chassis STi (04-07), and my car has better throttle response and gets off the line helluva lot easier and quicker. once the cars are rolling and as speed increases, the weight difference isn't really noticeable, minus maybe the initial throttle stab where the lighter car takes off quicker. but this isn't as pronounced at higher speed as already mentioned.
