Default how is the rsx type S

A friend of mine is looking to purchase a rsx type S soon, and I've notice that there is a a-spec model out now. Whats the difference between this one and the previous type S? This is going to be his first manual car and with his work commute, its mostly traffic and city driving. With the occasional weekend crusing.

From what I remember the teg GSR used to go out the door for about 22k. How much are people paying for their rsx type S now? If I remember correctly, the new rsx is a 6 speed with ivtec and the power is more towards lower end reving. When he goes to purchase the car, he wants me to come along with him to give him my impression of the car since he sees me drive my S to hell every weekend. So basically, I just want some honest opinions about the car, please keep this a friendly post as I simply want to find out as much information about this car for him before buys it.

Yes, I know some would say to buy the s2k or to buy the g35 rather then the rsx, but money is an issue and he simply wants to spend not so much on a fun car while he's still in his mid 20's. Thx again for any replies.

The RSX-S is a great car!!! I just sold my satin silver a couple months ago. it really is worth every penny......however the a-spec is not really worth the coin.

after dealer installatiion its going to end up being almost a $5000 extra. none of the parts can be bought seperatly from the dealer (except for the asthetic mods) but they can all be put on after the purchase of the car if he wanted to. the a-spec package is an acura bodykit with type r designed spoiler. it also comes with bigger brakes that are crossdrilled, better brake pads, a spec badging, interior aluminum dash kit, polished shift knob, stiffer springs and shocks, and not to mentinon the 17 inch wheels with the much MUCH needed upgraded yokohamas. the OEM micheline are HORRIBLE for performance but great in the rain and longevity. there are NO drivetrain modifications made to the car. its a good package but a little expensive. all the modifications done with the a spec paclage can be done in the aftermarket at a discounted price but you will not retain the full warranty.

however, the car itself is fabulous. its a great performer, lots of fun to drive. i did use it as my only vehicle and found it to be very comfortable and capable. the interior fit and finish it TOP NOTCH and the cabin is a very nice place to be. i would highly reccomend this car you your friend. oh yeah, also a very reliable car. of course, afterall it is a honda.

people are paying on an average of about 23k out the door for a type s with no options. then again it does come with pretty much everything standard.

Thx for the fast reply, I've been trying to find some information on this a-spec option, but you pretty much cleared things up for me. As for a extra 5k on the tag, I'm sure he wouldn't be going there as he would choose another car if it were to cost him 28k. 23 sounds very resonable to him as he was expecting to pay around 26

The guy simply wants a nice sporty car that can handle some turns and is more lively then his 6th gen v6 accord. The way he is, I'm sure that he'll shortly put out some money for new rims or I/H/E once he gets it. I know he says he isn't going to, but who does he think he's lying to.

A-spec isn't worth it too me but I agree, the RSX Type S is a great little car...one of the best front wheel drives out there ...and acura dealership experience is pretty good from what i've seen with our TL...
first mod should be hondata...and new tires

i have to chime in on this one. sorry. i had a type s. so did quite a few of my buds. on a buy, my payment was 520. i now lease an 04 S. my payment is 485. you decide which one you want. thats not the main issue though. main problem with the car, is the setup. cable trans is horrible. (ever tried yanking a shift in a prelude) if you look close, many people are having nothing but problems with that car, i broke all the motor mounts and trashed a tranny in 6k miles. the motor mounts are super weak, and allow alot of flex, and in the end , they snap. also, if you shift fast at all (like i do) all that linkage and cables etc, cannot keep up. so you go to nail a good shift, everything is in good timing, but the cable mechanism is far behind everything else, you let the clutch back out, and its not in gear yet, GRIIIND!!!. every time you shift it hard. sucks ass, so i fought with acura, and they ended up putting in a brand new gearbox, i added urethane mounts, so as to keep it all in line. this did not help, within about 2k miles, it was grinding again, bad. i was so pissed, i dropped it off, and picked up an s2k. now i dont miss shifts.
bottom line, if hes lookin for more than two seats, wants front wheel drive, and wants to haul, get a 99-00 gsr. best front drive trans ever made, just add urethane mounts, bad ass clutch, JRSC and all the goodies, and you have a car that is a smog legal blast.
laterz dudes. dave

I have a mental image of you screaming "Who's your Daddy!!!!!!!!!!" as you man handle the $%$T out of your car. Note to self; do not buy a used Suzuka '03 from Nevada ever.

I traded in a 2002 Type S for my S2000. Great car! Fun, fast. Deceptively fast. Plenty of room and a blast to drive. The tranny is very good. Braking is also very good. RsxFlyBy is correct in that is really needs decent summer tires. Keep the Michelins for the winter. I can highly recommend this car. Especially in its price range.
