Default I need help....

I need help. I have trouble dealing with the absurd amount of stupidity on the road that I have to endure every day. I'm from Long Island and the driving is atrocious. No signaling, people can't stay in their lanes, everyone is on their phone or has earphones in their ears, people go right before making a left turn. Do they all think they're driving trucks? I feel like I'm going to war every time I leave the house and that my S and well being are on the line.

The latest thing is that people can't even stay on their side of the road. I'll come down a one lane-two way street, and someone will have one of their wheels almost entirely on my side of the road. I took drivers ed when I was 16 and have been driving for over 11 years now and don't know how to not scream every time I go somewhere. It's just one stupid thing after the next. The only place I've experienced worse driving is in Jersey.

What is going on out there? It's just surreal how someone does something stupid/dangerous every 15-20 seconds, and that is being generous. I just don't know how to handle how bad people are at driving. New Yorkers are rude and selfish to begin with (more so Long Islanders than those who live in the city) and I guess it just translates to the road.

So thanks for listening to my rant and I'm looking for some way to be accepting of how horrible my driving experience tends to be on a daily basis and was wondering what my fellow S lovers do to stay calm and safe. Hopefully where you live provides a better experience....

Seems to be the same problem on the other side of the country....People doing 55 in a 60, but then that same person will do 70 in a 50 and 45 in a 35. Nobody can keep a consistent speed, and nobody can merge. Ive got people coming to a full stop on an onramp to the freeway since they are to scared/dont know how to merge. People fly up behind me in the left lane, ride my bumper, i move over and then they just sit there, afraid to pass. on roads where its two lanes going either direction, you will have two people sitting side by side, afraid to pass eachother.... i think drivers ed has just gone downhill since i took it in 2004.... That and i think the U.S. has the worst driving schools and easiest tests to get a license.

You can't change the way the idiots drive so getting upset and yelling is going to stress no one other than yourself and whoever may be riding with you. Rather than getting mad try making a game out of how well you drive and how you can keep the people that want to play bumper cars from bumping you. Take pride in your skill and just laugh at the people that aren't as capable as you.

Really? Because I would have said the only worst drivers I've seen than Jersey are on LI or in Brooklyn. Not that it's not a close call.

You just deal with it (and occasionally yell a bit).

There is a general breakdown in society where being polite and considerate is in short supply and selfishness and an over abundance of self worth is running rampant.

People will get their reality check soon.

That's pretty much what I do. Appreciate how well I drive and how many countless accidents I have avoided. I drive like everyone is out to get me and don't trust anyone's actions.

Still, sometimes it's just too much to handle. Can't wait to leave Long Island for good.

i have noticed here in central Pennsylvania that I follow a lot more people that cross the center line by a foot or two at times then that same driver will be off on the shoulder a foot or two.... i assume they are all multi tasking (phones, feeding kids, feeding themselves, trying to write shit while on the phone, etc...)

i live about 3 miles down a 35-40mph road ....some people will do 25mph and get pissed when i am flashing my lights... i don't think they even know they are 10-15mph under the speed limit... those same people will be off both sides of road...

too many people are trying to keep up with the ratrace by doing too much shit while behind the wheel...

Same crazy driving here in Holland.
It's normal at every crossroad nowadays that you see people driving through the red light, one even more blatant than the other.

What most annoys me is the huge pile of traffic stacking up in the left lane behind slowly overtaking trucks or cars.
Everybody just seems to love driving right up the eachothers bumper on the left lane, not keeping space for the traffic in the right lane to overtake. What happends next is that cars in the right lane still try to get in between all the packed up left-laners, which leads to extremely slow overtaking. It literally takes several minutes before you can pass a single car.
It seems 99% of all participating drivers are selfish b*stards
