It will be sad to see them go since their products are now improving a tad. Are they? I think I meant to say to actually started selling the EVO in America not so long ago. Oh well, fare well.

The new Outlander and new Lancer (FWD) have been sales hits for Mitsubishi in the US recently. As auto sales in the US overall were down in 2007, Mitsubishi's sales were up something like +9% year over year. (Also note that 2007 was a year that they did not sell the Evolution in the US. So to argue that the Evolution is the only product that US consumers care about is kind of silly. It may be the only product that consumers on this board care about...)
I can't imagine that Mitsubishi would consider leaving the US market - the largest auto market in the world, and a market where they are experiencing a healthy sales rebound - Especially when their domestic sales in Japan actually fell last year. Two years ago, when they restructured to avoid bankruptcy, Mitsubishi said that the US market was going to be the main target of their product mix and the engine of their turnaround. I can't see them abandoning a plan that has been successful so far.

After seeing the pictures of the new Evo with the body kit and lowering springs (or coilovers), I've fallen in love with it as the best "practical" sports sedan I can readily afford. That said, I am also worried about the company sticking around long enough for the car to actually get work done on it.
I drove an Outlander while I was in Midland (rental car) and was pleasantly surprised. While the interior wasn't anything great (certainly not as nice as a CR-V or Santa Fe), it drove quite well, was quite, had a smooth transmission, great brakes, and good handling for the segment.
I think they can make great cars but they really need an excellent sales and support team to make it work. The dealerships really need to step up their game, I think, but that's a tough nut to crack with the automotive market so slow right nwo.

Mitsu is actually doing much better now than they were a few years ago...and FYI the Evo X is selling very well so far since its release only a few weeks ago. Last I heard Mitsu was the fastest growing Japanese car company in the US.
