S2000's trunk is reasonable compared to a 350Z's or Z4's.
I haven't seen a Z4's trunk before but the 350Z and even the Eclipse Spyder's trunk aren't very usable.

I also have to point out, with the trunk opening up backwards, the only way to get into that bad space is to stand by the side of the car by the rear wheel and reach over the top of the fender. I wonder how many of those cars have scratches in the rear quarter panel there because of people leaning onto the fender with things like rivets in jeans.

You guys do know the miata's top is not motorized too right?
Agreed that the trunk is pitiful, thankfully the coupe is somewhat remedied this problem.
Btw, GM's not the only one who can't seem to design a trunk, remember the MR-S? Granted it was mid engine and all that, but still.
GM shoulda made the wheel wells smaller and fit a 16-17" rim instead of the retarded 18s (bigger imo isn't always better) which wouldve cut down on space and ultimately increase trunk space. There's a reason why those folks are able to fit huuuge wheels back there.
The worst GM trunk had to have been the late F bodies, that trunk shouldve been a lot bigger for what it was (i mean the car is big and was technically a fastback/hatchback) but GM always have those dumb humps in the middle of the floor space.

Excellent observation, that is a design flaw.

how about the 'trunk' in a mr-s? i think thats even smaller
The MR-S has no trunk it has a "frunk" (front trunk) I used to own one lol!. However it only houses the spare tire. The only useable storage space are two "cubby" sized spaces behind the seats.

I would have to say the S and MX-5 have the best trunks for a roadster.

You forgot the Boxster

2 trunks + 2 large door panel compartments + glove box + arm rest compartment + cubby hole = mucho storage

The hardtop is.

That design never ceases to amaze me. A foldable motorized hardtop that barely takes any trunk space, barely adds any weight to the car, has its own tonneau cover (also automatic), has very few moving parts, is very quick, and comes in a car that costs under $27k.

And it's a nice looking car, to boot. I saw one the other day and I did a double take.
