Default Intake for a Miata

A friends of the family and his wife want to get an aftermarket intake for their Miata. I have no idea what is available for these cars. I think it is a 1999 or 2000. If anyone could give me tips or links to where I can get help, it would be appreciated. Thanks

there is much speculation as to what an intake can do for you, having had a 1990 and a 2001 i can tell you the newer cars suffer from heat soak in the airbox region, but aside from adding alot of very load noise you will not add enough hp to make a difference...put a muffler and an intake and a header and you will be looking at 15 hp, max..the intake is 3-7 hp depending, the muffler can be 3-5 hp and the header can be close to 8-10 hp...a turbo or supercharger will liven things up. and this is no slight...it will still be a miata when you are finished...once you change any system on the car youwill need to think about chaning other systems...it is all about balance...brakes, tires, wheels, springs, shocks, lsd, sway bars, etc... and then you will have a different car..but if you want noise and some better response the racing beat website will entertain you.

Having just switched from a 2001 Miata with Intake and Exhaust to an 04 S2K (GPW), I can tell you that the Miata's do not get the great benefits that other cars do from less restrictive intakes...it's covered quite in-depth over in the forums at miata.net For the newer Miatas (99+) without pop-up headlights, there are claims that the different intakes (Racing Beat, R-Speed, Monsterflow, etc.) add anywhere from 0 to 5 hp. They do add a serious amount of growl (I thought it was very desireable) and they do seem to improve the throttle response. Depending on mfg (for new ones) they can be from $150 to about $300ish and come in all the usual varieties from aluminum, carbon fiber, polished, etc. I had dual exhast and an intake (later decided what I really wanted was an S2K...) Tell your friends to go for it...life is too short, and on that car, it is extremely easy to swap intakes!

get the AEM CAI. I had an 01 with one - it offered the most HP gains for the M2 (99+). also, AEM will tell you it wont work on a 99, but it will

the Jackson Racing is best for M1 (90-97)

The best way to get hp gains with a miata is to sell it and get something else . Great car but limited .

transferred my Racing Beat cast aluminum intake between the M1's that have owned. it made a great bit of noise, but probably not much performance, although the intake runner on the M1's is loooooong and restrictive.
