I have had my S2000 for about 6 months now. I'm learning how to drive on it before I buy a NSX. I am getting a 2000+ 6speed targa. I have driven a NSX, and absolutely love them. The S2000 is the first car that I have driven that compares.

Well my car progression over the years has been:
Ford SVT Contour --> Integra GS-R --> Mazdaspeed3 --> S2000
So yeah, I've gone faster and more raw with each new vehicle. But I think the S2000 is a bit too far. It is fun to drive, but the harsh ride, random rattling, excessive wind noise, etc. becomes tiring.
I am going to check out an RSX Type-S this weekend. That'll be closer to what I'm used to.
I'd consider an Evo or whatever, but there's no good used ones. Also holding out for a B6 S4, Legacy GT manual (really rare), or even an R32.

although when looking for something more refined, yet fun (if you can get used to a more rearward biased motor layout) I'd look into a 911.

My conclusion is "keep the S".

I traded the S for a 911.

I find a 911 with OEM short shift and sports exhaust is a more entertaining drive than the S2000 and I am extremely picky.

Must be an O&M expenditure issue. What's the insurance on a newer 911?
I need to drive the S as a daily because I don't drive that fast with it and I get tickets in the FD. Anymore than about 75 in the S drives me nuts because it's at 4500 rpm already. A C6 would probably be at 1800 rpm and the FD is about 3000, tops.

It's the same with anything.
Think about what it's like going from the torque of a V8 to an S? Or going from a lighter NA miata to an S?
You get used to what you're driving. That being said, there's not really a good replacement/upgrade for it on the market right now unless you want bigger with more power.

Great answer.
