Default Jaguar S-Type 2003 and below (any issues?)

We recently sold one of our other cars and my SO has been looking at the Jaguar S-Type. We have the S as our fun/convertible etc.....and we have our two POS's for work, so we need something that can hold more than two people....and this is looking roomy.

Are they a bitch to have worked on?
Are there any common problems (electrical, mechanical, suspension, drivetrain)?
Are they worth having?
Do they hold any value?

Any information good or bad would be great.
I have never been behind the wheel so any input would help.

My mom has one, nice car overall. Does very well in MN winters with decent tires. No problems yet, and it is at least five years old now. Very nice to drive, very responsive and yet a quiet, comfortable ride. Buying used is a great deal, so I don't know why you'd care much about "holding its value." You certainly aren't going to turn a profit, but the biggest depreciation hit is in the first few years, so I wouldn't let resale value stop me from buying a two+ year old model.

You can probably get basic service at a Ford dealer if there isn't a Jag dealer nearby. My mom's S-Type has been as reliable as possible so far. Jaguar has dealers in pretty much every population center of any significant size, so unless you live in Wyoming, you're probably fine.

I'd buy one from a Jag dealer rather than a private sale, if I were you, to ensure you are getting a car with no problems - a private seller isn't going to pony up for a repair down the road, but the Jag dealer will offer a warrantee, and won't sell you a car with anything broken.

My wife and I have had several as rentals and you know how badly rental cars get beaten up. With that said they still drove very well and we've enjoyed them enough that she would like one for her daily driver. The one problem we've seen on all of them was that the remotes didn't work.

I have one. I know in 2003 they beefed up the frame it inherited from the Lincon LS. I can tell you they don't hold their value, but I got my dealer demo with 5000 miles for over $10K less than new. The car is big and feels big, but it's not so big in the back seats. You give up on some interior room to look a sexy as the S type does. You would expect a supercharged V-8 to get you horrible gas milage, however I average over 18mpg to every tank, same as my ZHP 330i. The car doesn't feel a solid or stiff as a newer German or Japanese car. I can feel a little too much vibration in the steering wheel and pedals as I would like, but that will change when an all aluminium-framed S type comes out in two years. There is quite a bit of tire noise aver 55mph. I attribute that to the crappy Perrelis. I'm slapping on some pilots after these go. Other than that the car is great and you don't see one one every block like you might with a BMW or Mercedes. The car has great power, great ride, and great looks...what more could you ask for?

Some very useful info....Would you suggest the V6 version instead of the V8. Do you know if there are any reliability issues with the V6 vs the V8?

if you can afford the V8, get it, but the 3.0 V6 version is not slow by any means.

Speed isn't really a factor, although nice, it's more about comfort and reliability than anything. We are looking for something pretty roomy and nice to go out in and be able to take friends as well.

I have read a few reviews from the above posts and it's a little scary reading about transmission problems and window regulators.......but they seem to be just a handful. I'm completely new to the Jaguar line, and first hand experiences are always nice to hear.
