I've personally dealt with this also. Mine being a MY00 doesnt confuse them on model year, but on model.

Me: It's a 2000 S2000.
them: What model?
Me: s2000
them: I need the model, not the year.
Me: yeah, it's a year 2000, Honda s2000.
them: oh, haha.

Selling motorcycles is fun from the story standpoint. If I had a buck for every guy that came in with a story about his 350 Scrambler pulling 100 mph wheelies........

I'm a semester and a half away from having my bachelor's in automotive technology. I just so happen to work at a parts store also. That's just where I tend to hear more of this junk. Just FYI

Hmmm OP, trying to feel superior because the average consumer isn't a car expert? You work at AAP...

Can you field strip an AR-15?

Are you a tax professional?

Can you create hybrid crops?

My point is you find it stupid because you work there. I'm sure a financial analyst would find you stupid for many reasons.

It looks like Honda-Tech is pouring over into these boards...

On the flip side, I hear A LOT of dumb comments from the parts counter people too.

Besides that, I absolutely HATE going to parts stores.

If I drive the S2000, the pimpled face high school drop out behind the counter has to ask "How much was your carbon fiber top?" Too much, just get me my part.
When I had a CRX, the same kid always has to ask "How fast is it?" Fast enough and it depends on the track. Or "Whatcha got done to it?", I've changed the oil, now I need those spark plugs...

Parts counter people, ugh. Between them and Car salesmen, two of the most irritating types of people to have to deal with.

If you don't see my point, you probably should be supervised before you hurt yourself.

So, people shouldn't be criticized for being ignorant about cars because they might be an expert in another field?

"Hey man my car's got a check engine light but I checked the engine and it's still there but H/O WTFLOLBBQ don't hate because I'm a brain surgeon just gimme my parts"
