Default Lets watch the resale value of a Caterham

So, he says he paid $53k..... i am almost certain it will not meet reserve...... but if it does the reserve will be under $40k...... which is pretty crappy depreciation for basically a new car.....

This is why you don't buy a kitcar!

Well duh.

It's a kit car, and moreover a kit car that is several years old. Anyone want to guess how the car was driven for the 600 claimed miles?
This is the wide body (Roadsport SV) version that will accommodate people up to 6'6" easily.
That's easy to say for a car with no roof. Unfortunately for him, I've driven a Caterham, and I can say that if you have an inseam of better than 32-33", it feels awkward, even if you position the pedals as far back as they can go.

I'd sell it for $40k. That would be a fair price.

$53k new?

A superlight R is $29,000 without engine/ tranny. The SV is less. The top engine/tranny combo from Caterham USA is about $13,000. That's $42k by my math, for a new Superlight R. If he paid someone over $12,000 to bolt it together and paint it, he really is a sucker.

I think $35k is reasonable... not sure about $40k though.

220 bhp is impressive for a Zetec. I saw a Super 7 on Dyno in Corona and they were shooting for 180. But for $13K wouldn't you be thinking about some serious rotary power? Yeah the engine isn't the newest, not thinking about the RX-8, but I'll bet the torque curve on a $13K rotary (maybe even turbo?) would be fatter and peak higher (240+ HP n/a).

Hard to sell that high against Locost 7's that are out there.

I don't know about the Caterham, but I've seen the Superformance S1 Roadster (twice) and it seemed nicely screwed together.

But resale would not be so good.
