Looking for a new car...

Routine things like fluid changes, pads, tires, etc are inherently higher with an M/Porsche, whatever - and not an issue. I'm just afraid of big ticket items failing (i.e., air ride on AMG Mercedes... $7,000+). The car is just supposed to fill a void "for now" to focus money/energy on other more costly hobbies/ventures (airplane stuff...).
Still looking and I like some of these suggestions. I'm looking at a lot of oddball cars that are on the high side due to mileage, exclusivity, etc. Found a '97 3000GT VR-4 with 27K miles, 6 speed, 19K. The ultra low mileage alone makes it quite appealing..

With just bolt-ons you can get a VR4 well into the 12s. If you wanted to replace the turbos and fuel system the sky is the limit. The 6G72 iron block is similar to the DSM/Evo 4G63 in that it can hold insane amounts of power on stock internals. I have heard of people reliably holding 600awhp, and up to 800+ with a little less reliability.

Plus resale value is fantastic, especially on the 9's.

R129 SL500 1999+, That's what I'm getting next and I'm excited about it. Look for sport package and HID's. Also if you can find one with panoramic hardtop, it was a 6000 dollar option and is pretty cool.
