Default M or AMG?

So, which has the better performance cars? BMW's M or Mercedes Benz's AMG?

When they go head to head, which brand's car is better?

In the past I would choose an M car over an AMG.

Merc has propelled themselves forward with their black series. No sissy Merc compromise in these cars.

The line is a little less clear, so I would choose model to model and not division to division.

Mercedes has never really pushed AMG on the track vehicle the way BMW has with M.

AMG is for fast highway every day driving; going 100+ mph for an hour or two day in and out.

If speaking strictly performance I think AMG has surpassed M. Think of all the non black series AMG models and their crazy performances. Take the SL 65 AMG. 600+ hp and over 700 lb-ft torque is insane

7-8 years ago I'd say M but not anymore

AMG always posts some really good numbers on paper, but when it comes to tracking the vehicles, M usually wins or is the more "enjoyable" of the two.

However, more recently, the black series has come to the table offering a lot more, upping the ante and evening things out quite a bit more. That being said, I'm still partial to the M with their 6-speed offerings.

Also, getting a black series AMG is quite a bit more expensive than an "equivalent" class/model M-series. Given aftermarket upgrades and overall aftermarket support of the M over AMG models, I'll tip the hat to the M.

I believe for most drivers the AMG cars are better. Real question is M vs. AMG vs. S/RS. I'm really digging the audi stuff lately.

Oh what the hell, AMG FTW in the real world where these cars are used 99% of the time.

I can't seem to care about any German automaker outside of Porsche. BMW, MB, and Audi don't do anything for me and all three makes are everywhere in my area.

The M3 GTS and M3 CRT are the equivalent BMW models to the C63 BS. Both of these Europe-only, special edition M3s are pricier than the C63 BS.
