Default M3 Conv. or Boxster S?

They both cost about the same, the M3 has more power, has 4 seats, but it weighs almost 1000 pounds more than the boxster. i personally want a boxster S, what do you guys think?

You would have more fun driving the Boxster S, just like driving the S2K. I would wait for the 2003 Boxster S (Glass rear window), ~15hp more.

On the freeway, the M3 conv would walk from the Boxster, even if it is ~1000 lbs heavier.

I have an 01 Boxster S and traded it with a friend to drive his M3 SMG Cab for a week. I do not like the extra weight that the M3 has to push around. It doesn't feel very nimble at all. I also don't like the seats or the interior for that matter. I don't know why but it just doesn't feel right. Of course the M3 has a distinct power advantage over the 986S, but it doesn't feel as good in the turns. But a lot of that could be attributed to me not being used to a front-engined car anymore.

The main reason I wanted to drive it was because of the SMG, so I could try it out. It was fun at first, but I would be afraid in the long run about eatting up the clutch very soon. I was using it primarily in S5 and after a 5-80mph run and 4 quick shifts, I could smell the clutch. Also on the hills it slips it pretty bad. On the plus side, it is great in traffic and downshifts like a dream.

It's too bad Porsche doesn't really want to beef up the Boxster since they are afraid it will dwarf their precious 996. The Ruf 3600S (with 345hp) would be awesome to drive. Only $90K

That last Summit Point track day I was at there were six 2000s, a
couple of M3 and NO (ZERO) Boxters. That told me everthing I
needed to know about Boxters and the people who buy them.

Sorry, 01S = 2001 Boxster S. Been spending too much time on 986 boards

There are plenty of Boxsters at track days in California. That does not hide the fact that there are too many, as Porsche enthusiasts like to say, poseurs, amongst the 986 ownership group though.
