I am lookin for a nice car as a project car and being that I know next to nothing about rx-7s I figured somone would know something about them....My goals for the car is to have 400HP and I have always wanted a turbo`d car...I want to keep my S for everyday driving and biult the 7...what do you guys think not including the price of the car do you think it will be an achivavble goal? I am looking to do this without spending 10k in mods over 3 years

I assume your talking about the 93-95 Rx7 (FD) right? It is such a awesome car and just a mechanical awe how a Rotary works. But it is such a pain to maintain and have one running. You have to give it constant attention to its oil level, heat temp, etc or no that sucka will pop on ya.

But being as it is your project car, you wouldn't have to worry about its down time when you need to rebuild its engine every 70k to sometimes 100kmiles.

10k might not be enough. Depending the car you get you may want to look into rebuilding the engine.

**Edit** With the FD, you always get the parts right the first time, so you can't half ass it with good parts here and blah parts there. Doesn't work like that on a FD.

The FD would be great but be forewared... Do your homework on Rotaries before getting involved.

They require a little bit of special attention that many may find to be a pain.... You really gotta love em to get involved with em.

i have been lurking around the forums for the past year or so... was originally going to buy a 2005 s2000 but last month saw an ls1 fd for sale. i have about 1/2 the boltons and 224/224 cams on and i dynoed at 365 rwhp and 355 rwtq untuned, the rest of the boltons and tunning will get me to about 430 rwhp... :-D if theres a demand for pics i'll post em up.

Jesus Christ that is one sick ass car....Yeah I am talking about the 93-95....To tell you the truth I really only want a chasis I don`t care if the engine is blown I found a great deal on a 20B motor its 280HP 300TQ...That would be my first mod to the car....i found it for 3500...Then maybe just a turbo upgrade for the next year and a little lip kit and maybe a new style bumper for the front with a headlight upgrade....I jsut really wanted some feedback on how reliable it is...

The 20B is still a rotary motor, I'd rather do the LS1 swap than a 20B. It will be more reliable, more mod friendly, and most importantly, I don't think it's any heavier or upsets the cars perfect balance.

actually the ls1 swap... with it you lose ~34 pounds. all aluminum v8 > iron rotary.

my car was the base model of rx7 which weighed around 2780... stock.

20b Rotary = 3rotor madness. Take out the turbo and install ITB's... responese maddness... go with the 20b man, without the turbo on a 20b its just as reliable as another engine.
