Default Mazdaspeed 6

Why isn't this car a hit, or at least a sleeper suprise? I would think that with all the love for the Legacy GT on here, there'd be somebody who likes this car. I've heard plenty of mention about the Mazdaspeed 3, but pretty much none about the 6. What gives, you'd think with 274hp, 6spd manual, awd, 0-60 at or below 6 seconds, and much better than average handling, there'd be more of these around.

Nothing wrong with them IMHO. Nice car. When discounted are priced quite nicely. I don't think Mazda did a very good job marketing the car.

They also souped up the car long into the bodystyle. It would have helped if this was offered when the car was new and the hot thing to buy.

I haven't driven one, but I like MS6 also. From what I read in C&D though, it is a pretty heavy car, and the engine is very, very buzzy, so you get a ton of cabin noise. So the "kids" will go to the cars that do it better, the EVO and the STi, and the "older" folks who want a spirited car but don't want the big old wing and such, most likely turn to a bimmer and such once they test drive the car and hear all the cabin noise, plus getting only ok materials inside.

That's my guess.

Its a nice car, they just marketed it poorly and couldn't find their target market like they did with the MS3. The MS6 makes less power than the MS3 due to poor ECU mapping even though its rated higher. One problem with the MS6 is that its been plagued with tuning issues in all the stock ECU flashes. Too bad the MS3 didn't come with AWD b/c Mazda was able to get that ECU right. Overall though, they were selling the MS6 for as low as $22k brand new and at that price its a steal.

Friend has one, no good.

Not a real AWD system, quality isn't there, heavy, looses power in the winter (ecu will cut out the engine), not reliable, etc.

After having driven the MS6 at a Mazda driving event, I can see why it didn't sell. It's heavy, SLOW, has waaaay to much bodyroll in tight cornering, and it just does not feel like a performance car in general. At least not worthy enough to be calling it a Mazdaspeed.

BINGO. no one knows anything about them. if they gave them the same marketing effort that they did to the MS3 itd be more popular i think.

BUT...i the same time, its also an answer to a question no one asked. subaru arguably has the AWD segment lock in the sub 35k area. where does a 270hp AWD mazda 6 fit? what does it fight against? its not luxo enough to fight a TL/G35. its not fast enough to lure STi/EVO guys. what does it do?

its a really nice car, and i enjoy driving them from time to time, but for 27-30k, why not just get an evo, or a LGT?

the LGT is a better balanced, more attractive car with a more reliable history.

the 1-2 shift at redline on those cars causes wheel spin supposedly as the TC kicks in. always found that kinda weird.

I rode in one of these for a test drive (actually with a guy on this site) and we were both disappointed with the performance. It didn't feel as fast as Mazda claims it is. The most exciting aspect of the car was its name.
