I think more states are able to use 93 octane then 91. So, it is not that bad of a claim.

looks like its more of a detonation problem (inefficient I/C) than overrated hp/tq

of course, that means customer that are stucked with 91 and in hot weather won't be happy for sure!

yes read the whole article.

Pull #5...It took all of 5 minutes or so to pour the ice on the I/C. This time upon WOT, the car absolutely sprang to life, and pulled solidly and consistently to redline. 238 WHP at 6000 rpm and 277 WTQ at 3300 rpm!!!
The TMIC cannot get enough air, and heatsoak occurrs. This is not only the case on a dyno, its happening in real world situations with the MS6. Mazda went to lengths to stay away from a hood scoop, but it looks like they didn't do a good enough job

They should have just put the IC where it belongs in the first place...behind the front bumper. Screw that Scooby crap

Yeah, it's just strange, why would you put the IC up top if you are not going to put a hood scoop?

TMIC saves on plumbing distance and complexity, and since the air is vented in from the top of the front grill straight to the IC, so it doesn't really matter if there's a hood opening imo.

Mazda's had TMICs in the past - of course they had hood scoops too: the old RX-7 hood scoop was pretty cool - big, but off center..

Why would they do that when so many states are limited to 91 octane????
I thought only Cali had the 91 Octane rule? Everything here in the Northeast is min 93, some have 94.

...
Out of curiosity, is this the only advantage to TMIC?

Some posts from the Mazda forum claim that a TMIC somehow reduces turbo lag. Is that true?

The higher elevation states like Utah and Colorado seem to only have 91 octane. But that is simply because the elevation makes higher octane unnecessary.
