Mazdaspeed MX-5
Okay its been published that Mazda is working on the MX-5 with the same motor as the MS3. It will be slightly detuned for obvious reasons. But still, could you imagine a 240hp Mazda MX-5. It would basically be an s2000 but for thousands less. Any thoughts?

If a regular Miata can cost well upwards of $25k, why do you think the turbo MX-5 would be thousands less than an S2000?

It will be getting a slighty detuned engine from the 22k mazdaspeed 3. There is no way in hell there going to ask 35k for one.

You can get a new S2000 for $30k though. Not sure you'll be able to get a discount like that on the new Turbo MX-5.
Too bad they are detuning it as it needs all 263hp to compete with the Solstice GXP, Sky Redline, and S2000.

I dont think the detuned engine will really matter. I mean a base miata already weighs 400 pounds less than the GXP(2600 VS 3000) Since the Mazda hatchback gained 150 pounds converting to the MS3, your more than likely looking at a 2750 vs 3000. Booyah!

S2000 is still a much better-looking car, inside and out. Plus, it's got a better gearbox and is n.a. (which may be a plus to some). I am excited about the Mazdaspeed, though. Could be a nice ride, but I haven't read the greatest things about the Mazda 2.3 turbo motor (coarse). I, for one, wish they did a 2.0 turbo that would rev higher and make around 260hp or so. I'll definitely check it out, though.

If does have 240hp and way give or take 100 pounds.. It should be slightly faster than the s2k. Gearing is a big factor but there is a difference between 240hp on N/A and turbo when it comes to top end.
Bad news for the S because this should hurt sales. Hopefully they keep it 'Honda' and don't succomb to FI for the next gen but they definently to step it up.
