Modern "s2000"
#21
Thanks for all the comments again, I will drive the Evora(if I can find one nearby) and may look at a Cayman. By looking at the figures on Miata, I dont think I can live with under 200hp. I guess when I was asking for a "modern 's2k'" I was hoping for upper 200-300+hp but still have the S2k driveability....any other suggestions?
And people are going to roll their eyes over both statements.
If the S2000 was never released, and the ND Miata had only 100hp and weighted accordingly, I'd still look to own one.

The modern s2000 really is the nd2, it follows the ethos the closest and has alot of modern amenities like not squeaking and rattling, holding civil conversations on the highway is nice too.
It looks like you want the next step up. In which case the Cayman/boxster is probably going to be it. Evora and ferraris are just another league, I mean many viper owners say that vipers feel like an s2000 that bruce banner experimented with.

Just as aside, the Toyota 3.5L in the Evora is the same as in my Toyota Sienna, although I believe Lotus tunes it out to 7000rpm. It's a great engine, awesome mid-range punch that I wish Toyota would let us rev out more cause its still pulling strong when you hit redline at 6200rpm.

Although if I were shopping in the $50k price range, I'd honestly be looking at a Camaro SS or saving up just a bit more for a C8 Vette. I know, not a lightweight drop top, but they are along the same line of thinking as a "Bang-for-the-buck World beater"
Edit - can't believe I forgot this one: or a used HOT d@mn! Mustang GT350!!! F@ck! That Coyote engine is HOT!

I got to drive one quite often a couple of summer ago. Clutch is like a Honda, great gearbox, brakes, and obviously the engine... Does feel kind of big. Takes up a lot of road compared to like Cayman, etc...
I wish Ford put that drive train into more models and that Aston went with that drive train over the AMG one in their new V8 models.

The facelift 2009-2012 987 cayman s. They can be found for ~30-35k and you can still get an aftermarket warranty if you are worried about Porsche reliability/repair costs. These are phenomenal to drive and people love them. They are 3000 lbs and 290hp and the flat six is glorious with a linear powerband.

Steering feel/communication is when you feel the tires getting closer to, and drifting past, the limit as well as bumps, camber changes, etc. through the steering wheel. Drive an Elise/Exige, pre-991 911 (preferably 993 or earlier), pre-981 Boxster/Cayman, earlier M3, or Miata and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Perhaps I need to drive more cars but I feel like an AP1 is very communicative, depending on the comparison. Maybe it's the 255 front tires? Maybe modding the supra might give a more desired feel with the modern twist.
