Motor Trend Tests the New C6
Interesting test.
More difference between the C5 Z06 and the new Z51 than I thought there would be. The early reports seem to have been about right. The Z51 gets you about 3/4 of the way from the standard car to the Z06.
I thought straight line performance would be a little better. Maybe it's the weight.

0-60 4.3 sec
1/4 mile 12.7@112mph
Don't forget this is only one test. Maybe C&D will pull out a 4.1sec 0-60.
I think some of the difference is weight, but also the Z06 has better wheels and tires. The Z06 lightweight wheels and non-runflat tires saves something like 24 lbs of unsprung weight. That's a lot.

I think the C6 Z06 will be an absolutely phenomenal car when it comes out. the C6 Z51 is already a close second to the C5 Z06.
Hopefully GM will transfer some of this newfound engineering prowess into their other cars.

Motor Trend was running low 13's with a C5 Coupe, so the C6, in their test, shaved a half second off that time, so with other 'more skilled' drivers, the car should run mid to low 12's stock. Not bad at all.

I'm sure it does...
My bro owns a 2002 Z06... www.cardomain.com/id/driv200mph
He rented an SRT-10 Viper and said it wasn't as fast, and ESPECIALLY not in the corners.
My bro dynoed his Z06 with just Intake and Exhaust and broke the dyno at over 200mph... so I'm not sure. Stock gears too.

uh....the ZO-6 is redline linited to somewhere in the 170-180 mph range. being on a dyno won't change that, unless you change wheel sizes dramatically, or change the gearing.
