My 4 years with an F355

Does it make me poor to want a 348 over a 355? I like the door aero...or something to do with the movie Showgirls

Love the 355 wedge shape, which also is shared a lot with the twin turbo v8 Lotus Espri of the same era i see and also like. The 360 is a pretty timeless looking classic to me and always liked as well. The 430 got a little awkward, but Ferrari totally redeemed themselves with the 458. That shape is pure timeless sleek sex. If we are talking 348 era Ferrari's, the F40 hands down does it for me. Its so raw and purposeful in looks and performance, capturing the pinnacle of all out 80's performance and bare bones drivers/track toy car. If you can find one it will only cost 1M to own now lol

This fairly well represents the 355. I have a '98 355, have had it 9 years and 37k miles. Too much money eaten by the car to count, but at least it's appreciating finally--sort of an offset to the money devoured. The best part of his story was the parking lot story of finding some assbag having parkied his POS right alongside my car, though it sits at the farthest spot from wherever, and though there are hundreds of closer spaces. Amazing but true, again and again. After all the years, however, I haven't heard a better sounding street car. I'm not yet at the point of the OP, but who knows?
Great ownership write-up!

An interesting and well written topic
I still don't own an S2k (but I'm a big fan), even thought I've been a member for many years... But I did pick up a 360 Modena just under 3 months ago, and I guess I will find out as well if my story is similar to yours (although they do say the 360 is cheaper to maintain and more reliable over all).
In my case, I was granted a 1 year warranty through the official F dealer, and I've only had a few small things I needed tweaking thus far (all under warranty). The difficulty to place the shifter into 6th (in the OP's case) may be due to a plastic part that crumbles after all these years. I'll have mine changed with a metal one in November when I do a larger service (not the belt one which costs much bucks... this one was done before I took deliver).
I've put around 5000km in the 2.5 months I've had the car. She wasn't driven much in the past few years (sadly), and it's true they need to be driven or problems pile up. Mine is almost a daily driver now, but I will need to chill down in the winter months (over here in Switzerland). The 360 is a bit more friendly when it comes to service costs (compared to a 355), but I picked up a well kept 2002 model and I have about $100k on the side for anything that requires a worst case scenario (I told myself that if I want a Ferrari, having been a big fan for almost 30 years now, I need to be prepared and pay the price if need be). I paid about $100k for mine, for those who wonder (almost immaculate, relatively low mileage, single owner, full service history, a wonderfully sounding Tubi which I guess may not sound as good on a F355, etc...).
I guess time will tell. There's so many things about the car which just doesn't make sense (for example, ignition must be engaged to open the gas tank) and every time I hear new noise or feel a vibration I'm not familiar with, I jump a bit. But they all seem like false positives thus far.
4 years in a Ferrari is at the very least what I'd be happy to experience as well
But hopefully I'm a life-long owner of this marque. If my first few years are good, I will try to upgrade to a 430 (my current 360 is a gated manual, precisely what I wanted, and I want the same from a potential 430), and then to a 458, 488, etc... But financials go up and won. You never know what happens a few years from now :\
Thank you for the nice write up, even with issues being mentioned on ferrarichat, F355 owners love their cars regardless, and I love mine too
I wish wonderful driving experiences to all on this site! Stay safe.

Nice, you'll enjoy the 360.
Here is a thread I did on my time with one:

Awesome man, gonna read your thread now
Mine is red, has a 4-point harness (making it very difficult to gauge if there's a car next to mine on the highway), I always wanted one with a Challenge grill, and the one I got didn't have one, but the dealer found an official one and set me up with it for a few thousand bucks... *groan*
Ah well. Gotta pay to play :\
Exotics are not too rare in Switzerland, and yes a few guys have shown their interest in more ways than one (as have a surprising number of ladies, usually the older kind), but the best part is seeing a absolutely humongous grins on the faces of children when they see my bright red F-car cruise down the street (and the Tubi is loud, so... yeah). I've been asked by a few to rev it up a bit, so if it's not too much of a nuisance for the surrounding, I do comply.
But I bought her for myself to enjoy, after all, that's what we enthusiasts often do with cars
I love many cars, and recently parted with a 1998 NB Miata which I always wanted to own (had her for a few years). The next other fun car I would like to get, is an S2000 and keep that for a few years as well. But I keep my main ride for a bit longer than that (I sold an AMG I had for nearly 10 years when I made room for the 360).
Drive safe y'all!
