Just was on the wiki looking up lap times and such for the Nurburgring track, im sure this has definitely been posted before (many times probly lol) but its the first time ive ever seen the lap times of so many great cars (including the s2k) and thot this would be interesing for people to see where their car -in stock form- stands.

BTW why do they call it Nordschleife and Nurburgring?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordsch...test_lap_times <<<link (S2000 at 8:39)

So the Porsche 956 has the fastest lap time in history at the ring @ 6:11.13?

The Nordschleife means "north course" and there are some guys on here that have driven it in an S2000. The North course is the old course or full course - not the modern GP track, so its the real deal with all of its corners and elevation changes. The S2000 might just be capable of even faster times. As racetracks go, there is rarely a driver that can say with conviction that they just ran the perfect lap. Most tracks are a fraction of the length of the Nurburgring Nordschleife, so imagine the amount of micro mistakes that take place on such a long lap with even a top rank professional driver.

As for the 956 Porches lap time, they used to do 1000km races there in Group C cars, I beleive its the late Stefan Beloff that holds that record too. During the 1984 Monaco GP while Ayrton Senna was busy chasing down Alain Prost in the wet, Stefan Beloff was cathing Senna at an even faster rate until the race was red flagged. 1 year later he would die in a 956 at eau rouge at Spa in a crash with Jacky Icks.

The group C cars form the 80's were the heigt of prototpe sports cars - over 1000hp, full ground effect, and super light. I doubt modern prototype cars could compete on big tracks with them, though I could be wrong. It would be interesting. Here is a video of Derek Bell in a works 956 at the Nurburgring in 85? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M11GOVfA50

and Martin Brundle? or was i MArk Blundell driving the Nissan R90CK "k" for long tail for Lemans setting the lap record at the "new" lemans with 1200bhp and special gearbox: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lMItc4cy8U

you are absolutely correct about modern p1 (and other such cars) not being able to compete with group c cars. they had more power and down force by a huge margin.

several of the group c cars made between 7500-10,000 lbs of down force. that's right. 10k. not a typo.

Omg, I searched for 30 min for a video of someone saying Nordschleife. I have no idea how to pronounce it. I'm imagining it spoken as Nord-shk-life.

Do the "d" in nord as a "nort" and drop the "k" sound from your phoneticizing?
