I know some people were saying CX-5, what about the CX-9? Anyone with any experience with those?

 

I work for Honda and I seriously recommend the CRV.

The CRV and Fit are two cars we fix the least, just letting you know.

We are going to look at a 08 CX-9 with 77k miles tomorrow (14.2k) a 09 CR-V EX with Nav 122k miles (13.8k) and we will look at a local RAV4. The one we would get is about 100 miles away. Its a 08 limited v6 with 50k miles (14.9k).

 

Only thing I recommend (as with any Honda) is religiously check the oil level and make sure it's in the safe zone. Honda's are literally bulletproof with the proper upkeep, but once you shy away from maintenance things can get ugly. All K-series Honda's can develop a stretched timing chain if the oil isn't changed according to schedule or if the oil runs low continuously between oil changes.

I'm not trying to scare you, but inform you.

 

How big do you want to go? The CX-9 is larger than the CRV and Rav4 you are contemplating.

 

check cx-9 reliability issues. The earlier gens are not known for stellar reliability or so i have read. I would avoid the cx-9 at all costs.

Thanks guys. Did a little more research on the CX-9. Seems to be very hit or miss and I'm not much of a gambling man. We're going to drive a CRV and a RAV4 tomorrow. Will report back on what we choose.

 

Can't go wrong with either. If you get used, go for a certified pre-owned one as they usually come with a limited warranty as well.

-Turbo
-ShAWD
-Turbo

The 2nd gen is nice, but more of a soccer-mom type of ride.

It was actually cheaper on the used market than a comparable CR-V (AWD, Leather, and Navigation).

Only downside is poor fuel economy.



For basic transport, a CR-V is hard to beat.

Ex wife had a '97 that was amazingly reliable, and then a '10 that was also great (replaced the '97 after it was totaled).

 

I'll also add this;

A good friend just got a new Equinox, and while I shouldn't be surprised, the interior fit and finish is absolute crap compared to my RDX.

I'm not just talking about the differences between a luxury vs. non-luxury; but the build quality is sub par. My RDX has 140k, and has fewer rattles than her 2k mile Equinox!! Really, no comparison.....
