insruance and insurance rates is so far from an exact science. for the most part, you can simply throw "common sense" out the window.

German cars are typically safe. However, parts are way, way expensive. Add to that expensive labor rates and German cars can and usually are quite expensive to insure.

Being a convertible may or may not make any difference in rates. There are so many other more important factors, like...

loss rates
your driving record
your age
how many miles you drive a year
where you live
etc.

the only sure thing to do is call your insurance agent.

I would definately get the S2k and use the 20K to get a pad. Whats the point of picking up chicks in your new car, just to take them to the 'rents place. "ive got a real nice room in the basement" Get yourself a fantastic car AND a place of your own.

My personal advice would be to get something cheaper even if you CAN make the payments. By cheaper I don't mean a Kia or something, but something more reasonable which will leave more money in your pocket once you've made your payments. If your parents give you $20k, I'd spend some of it on a cheaper car and save the rest, possibly invest it.

I just think it's a good idea to save money when you can and at the same time I know how it feels like to REALLY want a car. I stretched a bit on my S2000 but I'm still saving a lot of money by not getting something more expensive.

When it comes to finance, 99% of the time you don't want to push your limits ... it's always good to have a decent sized buffer.

Anyway, this is just my personal opinion ... maybe some of it is valuable.

The s2000 is a GREAT car too. And cheaper!

Welp. Finally decided to go with the S2000 since it has been my dream to own this car for so long. And also it's easier on the monthly payments and plus, I need to pay for my own insurance. Hehe...the M3 wasn't that hard to let go actually...here i come HONDA.

Thanks for all your guys's help along the way. Really appreciated it.

Ciao,

Bryan
