Default New WRX STI Prototype

Looks like everyone was right about the future WRX STI having a version of the FA20... at least in Japan.

Very cool, was only a matter of time.

The 2015 Subaru WRX STI is one of the most impressive bang-for-your-buck track cars of all time.
Anyone else laugh after reading this statement?

There's a lot we don't know about this prototype, but we're sure we won't see a Subaru WRX STI with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine stateside anytime soon. A turbo is bound to be a part of a future STI package, but it's more likely that the next-gen, U.S.-market WRX STI will have a larger displacement engine, not a smaller one. And if the next-generation Subaru WRX STI drives as well as this mac 'n' cheese prototype, we have a lot to look forward to.
Eh? I feel like Subaru downsizing the next STI engine to 2.0 liters is almost a foregone conclusion. I would be shocked if displacement increased from 2.5 liters.

Yeah, the author didn't really seem to know what they were talking about.... they did call it an "inline 4"...

Scrolling through the pics at the bottom, there is the BRZ STI as well. I wonder if that motor will make it's way into the BRZ?

I laughed. It's interesting to think they might increase the power after 10 years.

However there are problems tracking an STI's. It's call knock.

Right now Subaru is the only automaker I can fully trust they will make a successor to their sporty car line up. Sad as it may seem, the next Nissan Z car is either super hidden away under wraps or it might not get made for a long time. Toyota's FRS/Subaru BRZ is a one and done. Mazda just has the Miata which is a classic it is more a niche car for daily use.

Honda... with its Civic Si and even announced Hype-R in a the next year or two will be behind the performance edge compared to a Focus RS/Golf R/STI

The STI needs the motor upgrade and I'm surprised it didn't get released right away with the new chassis

Really, Subaru? Their "new" STI has a 10+ year old drivetrain. And the BRZ is theirs too, don't try to disown it. Also don't forget we were promised a WRX totally detached and different from the Impreza...and we got a modified Impreza. Funny that you mentioned Ford's Focus RS. Seems to me that you can trust Ford and Chevy more than anyone else to make true, and good successors, to their sports cars, time and again.

Subaru, really?

I test drove a new WRX in January and the interior is vastly improved over previous generations. Car felt pretty solid and the engine was torquey but I walked away from the test drive missing something. The car just didn't feel that special and I guess was expecting it to be faster. I'm sure the STI would change my opinion but the only one on the lot was about to be picked up and I wasn't able to test drive (Sticker price was just north of 40k!).

Subaru's looks seem to be improving over the years but they still have a long way to go.
