I've always said that if the Miata had ~100HP more and was a bit lighter it could give the S a run for it's money. But because the Miata was so underpowered when I test drove one in 01 that I went with the S.

You don't need mega-hp if you don't have to slow down for the corners!
With that philosophy, why not buy an Elise? Problem is, the Elise's lap times are often eclipsed by heavier, but more powerful cars.

My ideal car has 350 hp at the wheels and 2500 pounds curb weight.

I believe Elise's insurance is actually cheaper than S2000's because we see way less of them getting into an accident. But yea, there are a lot of reasons why owning a Lotus may be a PITA.

I'm not a fan of my NB Air Condition system. Prefered the S2k's

You might want to have it checked out, mine works just fine.

The only Miatas I've liked were the NBs. The early NAs were truly girly cars. The latest NCs were the worst aspects of the NAs mated to the worst aspects of the RX8.

I'd love to see/own a Miata with balls! I've owned 3 and have always said a little more power would cure most of their ills.

I bought my S because it addressed all the Miata's shortcomings and made me smile.

As to air conditioning, my NB's air worked fine for a Miata, it's not on the same scale as the S's air tho.

I agree that the NA miatas are not as nice looking as the NB. I also agree that from the factory they are pretty effeminate looking. However, lower them, get rid of that jet ski style front bumper and the car takes on a whole new look.

also, I pass by a Mazda dealer on my way to work in Dallas and they have one of the new face lifted NCs. Jesus Christ, those things look nice. It is easily the most aggressive miata ever.
