You might be able to find 00-01 Maximas around $8000. Good reliable transportation, with torque and a 5-speed. 98-99 Maximas are good shots as well, and will be in the same range.

There's about no way you'll find an 02 Max around $8000 though, unless it's got 150k on the odo.

CG, that is very very impressive. How do you do that? Is there a specific search on autotrader that does all that?
Yes there is. Just go to www.autotrader.com and look for the Powersearch option. I didn't select any type of cars because I was curious what would show up. I selected the years 2002 to 2005 and the price from $100 to $8000. Since I live in a fairly rural area I also searched within 200 miles of my zip code. For a good deal I don't mind driving longer distances. I drove almost 200 miles for my S2000, 245 miles for my diesel pick up, and 195 miles for my CRX. Living in Brooklyn NY. he probably doesn't need to go out that far but why not give it a shot.

BTW, if I could get a quick sale on my SVT Euro Focus I'd probably buy that Ranger because it's a hell of a deal. It's not fancy but it looks good in the pictures and already has a tool box and other goodies.

You can find LS400's in that range.

More often than not they are rock solid reliable up to 200k miles. Lot's of room. No one wants to steal them, big and roomy for other folks to join you.

Lexus Ls400 - surely you jest.

I would think that a civic, Impreza or a ranger would be ideal for a college kid.

Room for hauling people or furniture.

Safe.

No one wants it, so no theft.

Just a guess, but I'm betting insurance on an LS400 would be cheaper than a Civic or Impreza.

Good call.

a lot of you guys are missing the point. The reason he needs 02+ is for a loan, the rate is lower for 02 and newer. probably a mazda protoge or a corola is your best bet

I don't think you can find LS400's 2002+ for under 15 grand to say the least.
