Engine swapped cars can be tough to sell later.

Hahaha, agreed Master Yoda

I'd stick with a rotary in the RX7, and if you want an LSx powered car, get a "native" one. The V8RX7 just seems like too much of a Frankenstein's monster and I'm really curious about the weight savings vs. a C5 especially *if* you did some weight reduction in the C5.

For all the money it costs to convert an RX properly, you can add some serious performance to a C5. If you're interested in a track car, look for a 1999-2000 FRC - that's the fixed roof coup which was basically a 6-speed C5, Z51 in the same body package as the later Z06. Out of the box the Z will be quicker and handle better, but the price delta is pretty substantial. Enough to do H/C, suspension, wheels, etc.

While an LSx RX-7 sounds nice in theory, there is a 98% chance, it won't be as reliable as a nice, clean C5 Z06. Factory cars are almost always going to be better in the long haul than a backyard garage special.

The price folks want for a LSFD is crazy, its literally right there with a C5. which is why I asked the question. I like the styling of the FD, and it has aged well for 15+ years. But to try and command prices equal to a (at the minium) 5 year newer car is questionable.

By comparison you can find endless amounts of very very low mileage C5 Z06's that have been owned by older gentlemen that hardly take them out of their garages.

and I bet in 1970 some got all teary eyed whenever they saw a chevy small block swapped into a ford. **** that shit. is it fast?

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think cars with engines from different manufacturers are super lame.

I can't really justify it with any reason that there is not a good rebuttal for, but I just think it's weird.

I think that part of the fun of modifying cars is the competitive aspect that is naturally built in. It doesn't matter if you are actually racing people or not, there is just some measure of competitiveness that is always there. Typically, the brand of car is a dividing point for most people. Swapping in the engine from another make just seems wrong.

Throwing in an engine from a very fast car, in this case, a V8 from a corvette, almost feels like cheating... I don't know, I'm having trouble finding the right words here, but it's just lame. lol.

Whenever I see F20c swapped miata, I just can't help but think it's retarded. Sure, it's a better engine the the miata engine, but it just seems like the person cheated rather than building a fast miata.

Like there will always be an asterisk next to anything you accomplish with the car. I feel much the same way about it as I do seeing tube frame rx8's racing production 911's in the grand am series.

It's lame I tell ya, LAME!!

Furthermore, the rx7 is freaking awesome, and so is it's rotary engine. Sure, it's not as idiot proof as the LSx, but it rewards you in it's own way, and as far as I am concerned, that is part of the fun of doing a project car. You become fully submersed in that car's little quirks and nuances.

If they were both the same price, I would get a c5 z06. While I think it is far less attractive than the FD, it has all of the potential in the world to be a fast track car (I see everything as a would-be track car or not, so forgive my assumption that you want to build a track car as well).

I think that the FD would make a wonderful track car as well, but the z06 is just so foolproof. For every one race-prepped rx7 out there, there are probably 100 corvettes.

However, considering that you can find FDs for less than 10k, I would go with that all day long and never look back.

While I occasionally (quite rarely actually, in spite of my new-found hatred for him) will take a cheap shot at our resident rx7 expert, the truth of the matter is that I think that rx7's are worth any of the inherent issues that you have to deal with, and personally, I believe in the "no pain no gain" philosophy. In other words, if you shy away from the awesomeness of the rx7 simply because you have to do some extra wrenching, I may suggest that other sports beckon. :-)

Mr. E.G.,

What about those lame AC-Aces with a Ford V8?
